On March 28, ViP gathered a group of previously regular officials in ViP to a reunion with demonstrations and dinner. The afternoon started with an informal "fika mingle" and was followed by demonstrations and test driving in Sim II and in the new "Simhallen".
In Sim II, everybody was curious to see the new truck cabin from Scania and the new visual system consisting of three LCD screens covering the three windows of the cabin. The windscreen is covered by a 98 inches ultra HD monitor and the two side windows by 55 inches HD monitors. The exterior rear-view mirrors have been implemented in the graphics engine. In Simhallen, an introduction was given to train simulation and the challenge was to drive both passenger and cargo trains.
Since VINNOVA did not grant any more financing, ViP was closed in its previous form in December 2016. However, all partners agree to maintain the established network and the synergies that the previous collaboration has led to. Discussions will continue how to proceed with that in the future.
As a completion of the competence centre, ViP has produced a booklet with both a backward- and forward-looking perspective on driving simulation and ViP. We will use it to promote the simulator resources in the future. You can read it here.
